Beautiful vintage, double gold plated brooch with shiny motif from the famous house of Andreas Daub = A*D, from Pforzheim, Germany. From the 50s/60s.
This company was owned by jewelry designer Andreas Daubs from 1874, is still in business today and is still run by family members. The word "Amerikaner" is the same as "double" and this was a process of double plating an item that was made during the Austrian Empire period (before 1865) and ensured a lifelong glow. It was used because pure gold was becoming scarce due to the fine metals needed for the war effort throughout Europe. Around the time of the Civil War an American technique was created that was the same as the European "dooblay" and it was then duplicated in Europe.
Measurements: This brooch is 3.4 cm wide, 3.4 cm long and 15 grams. Signature: American A*DCondition: Very good vintage condition.
